God of War 6 might be heading to Egypt! A new insider leak suggests that Kratos could be stepping into Egyptian mythology, battling new gods and exploring a vast new world. With multiple references to Egypt in past games and fresh casting rumors, could this be the next evolution of the series? We break down all the clues, leaks, and what this means for the future of God of War!
People talk about where the series may go next and what the story might evolve into. I have a theory and I think it might work based upon what is already known.
“Gods of War”
Kratos is forced to return to his homeland. An Egyptian messenger deity reaches the Norse realm and informs them that a great evil has risen in the region. They traveled to Midgard seeking help as them and the Egyptians had good relations in the past.

Some of these deities tracked the messenger to Midgard and Kratos is forced to defend his people against them in a series of short introductory conflicts. These beings have been conquering swaths of territory like a plague. They move from one region to the next in a steady pace and show no signs of stopping. The messenger tells him that they possess God magic but nothing which is familiar to the Egyptian realm. (Similar to how people could tell Kratos was a God and had God magic but nothing of their realm in Midgard) Kratos will see signs that this new enemy carry Athenian symbols on their bodies and he realizes the source.
Greece is adjacent to Egypt and they had a lot of cultural crossover. The idea Greece has invaded Egypt as part of a larger effort to spread and conquer works logically and sets the tone for a cool location for the next entry.
The real mystery is some of the Egyptian pantheon have vanished while others have remained to fight the conflict. The game would involve Kratos traveling to the land of Egypt, discovering the mysteries of what is occurring there and to their pantheon before traveling back to the realm of Greece and finding Athena and confronting his past. It may later turn out that some of the Egyptian Gods have abandoned their roles and joined or became absorbed by Athena who is continually spreading her influence.
Midgard was a unique situation in that Kratos didn’t go on a killing rampage. While he did kill many in the Norse pantheon, he was given no choice. In this new game it would evolve further down that path.
This is where the new name comes in. Kratos is now mixing between 3 different Pantheons. He may make friends with the God of War of Egypt or he may enter conflict with them. Regardless, there are now multiple Gods of War and all hell is about to break loose on a universal scale.
Why do I think it’s Egypt?
The main reason is that the new God of War series was already planned to be in Egypt. They released concept art from it by Eric Ryan. That, to me, means that they likely already have a game plan for tackling the Egyptians. I don’t see why they’d pivot somewhere else when the Egyptian Pantheon was the original setting.

There isn’t just crossover between the Egyptian Gods and Greek Gods. There is crossover between the Egyptian and Norse symbolism. This could be tied into a larger story.
- Ouroboros is an ancient symbol of a serpent eating itself. It became a symbol of eternity and has been used in Gnosticism and Hermeticism. My idea was that this symbol (which ties into the Egyptian stories of the underworld) might tie into Jörmungandr and be the connecting point between both Pantheons. Maybe the encircling serpent acts as a gateway between both realms?
- There is also Apothis who is the serpent that attempts to eat the sun in Egyptian mythology. Similar to how Skoll and Hati chase the sun and moon. Apothis is the serpent connected to the sun rising each new day.
This serpent may also be what ties Atreus into the new series as he would very likely be much older and taking on more of a partnership role with his father in meeting the conflict head on.
I feel like any progress that Kratos makes as a person is going to be limited as long as Athena still exists. She had plans which she wanted Kratos to assist her with and when Kratos betrayed her and fled Greece, she was left as arguably the most powerful divine force left in the ruins of Greece.
Why would she have allowed Kratos to stop her plans? While he probably made her plans more difficult, she’s also an eternal being. My guess is she would have eventually found a way to circumvent the issue and eventually bring the chaos of the realm under her control.
This may also be what ultimately frees Kratos from his blades.
Kratos hates his blades. He wanted them gone but they kept coming back to him. It’s written about in the novels and he speaks of this in game dialogue.
That said, there’s a plot hole.
All of the other magical items and abilities he had went away when he left Greece. Fraya states that this is because the magic is tied to the realm it is connected to.
That obviously can’t be the case since the magic of the Blades of Chaos would be tied to the realm as well. The only solution to this is the magic is tied only under the circumstance where the God who created it is dead. Meaning once you leave that area, the magic wears off because the deity no longer exists to maintain it.
There’s a fix to this.
I think this could ultimately be a way to Retcon in the Blades of Athena from GOW 1 and create a more consistent reason and story arc.
In God of War 1, when Ares was killed his blades disappeared. Kratos was freed from the blades because the magical bond tied to Ares died with him.
Kratos was given the Blades of Athena as an alternative and these were the blades after the fact until the game sequels came out and maintained the Blades of Chaos.
What if both are true? What if the reason Kratos remains bonded to his blades is because Athena was the person who locked the new blades to him, and she still lives? The blades are still the Blades of Chaos, but the blades are now tied to Athena rather than Ares. In this case, by defeating Athena back in his homeland and freeing Egypt from her torment, he would also free himself from his blades which have haunted him since he fled.
